Why should I choose a pediatric specialist to provide my child’s physical therapy care?
An infant or young child’s body is not simply a smaller version of an adult body. It’s important these precious little bodies be treated by skilled providers with specific knowledge of their anatomy and function. The following are some important factors that distinguish pediatric physical therapy from adult physical therapy: 1. Pediatric physical therapy accommodates the developing child's needs. 2. Pediatric PT practice utilizes a family-centered approach. 3. Pediatric physical therapists employ play-based interventions tailored to the needs of a child.
2
Why would my baby require physical therapy care?
Parents often seek out pediatric physical therapy for their infant for a variety of reasons to address a wide range of concerns related to movement, development, function, and overall well-being. You might consult a pediatric physical therapist if your baby: - has feeding difficulties or colic - has a preferred head turn and/or tilt to one side or body posturing - has flattening on one or both sides of the head - does not like lying on his or her belly for play - is not meeting developmental milestones as expected - has difficulty holding their head up or moving against gravity - feels tight or stiff when moved or dressed
3
What will pediatic physical therapy be like for my baby or young child?
Treatment is provided in a quiet setting with your infant or child’s comfort as a top priority. Techniques utilized are always gentle and slowly introduced. Crying during sessions is not the norm and a fussy baby or child is respected and supported with all interventions performed to the child’s tolerance. Most babies enjoy treatment sessions and often feel more comfortable after a session.
4
Why should I seek physical therapy as soon as possible for my baby or young child?
Early intervention can set a strong foundation for a child's physical abilities and overall well-being, laying the groundwork for a successful and thriving future. Here are some key rationales for seeking physical therapy services promptly: Early Detection and Intervention: Prompt identification and intervention can prevent potential long-term challenges and support optimal development. Preventing Secondary Complications: Addressing physical challenges early through therapy can help prevent secondary complications or limitations that may arise if issues are left untreated and can reduce the risk of functional limitation in the future. Optimizing Neuroplasticity: The early years of a child's life, especially birth to three years of age are critical for brain development. Early intervention can capitalize on the brain's ability to reorganize and form new connections in response to therapy.
